2012 Baby Book

2012 was a great year for my blog.  I'll be celebrating my 1 year anniversary in just a couple of weeks.  I must say it's been fun and am so grateful for those of you that have come along for the ride!

So here's my "baby book," featuring the best project of my first year:

In January I showed a few projects that I'd done before I started the blog.  These included a numbered chest with yardstick top,

A white English cabinet,

A tutorial on how to create this lamp shade,

And the most viewed post in January was this desk.

By March I had created this window

And painted this china cabinet
(which is still in the shop, surprisingly)

April held a few great projects like this chair,

my favorite of the month, this stenciled table,

And while I was stenciling, this bench.

In May I added a stool to my collection,

Painted this dresser, the one that got away,

And tackled another yardstick project.

While the weather warmed up in June, I got this chalkboard done (the most viewed post of the year).

And this stenciled table, the second most popular post.

I got a little number happy in July, making this numbered chest,

And this kids table set.  I kept both of them!

In the midst of getting ready for school in August, I managed to whip out another window,

and this fabulous grain sack table.  Wish I'd kept this one!

September brought fresh inspiration.  It started off with this buffet with veneer repair,

This table dressed up in stripes,

And I tried my hand at some chalk typography.  Someone told me this piece made its debut at a wedding.  Perfect!

In October I reupholstered a bench with vintage grain sack.
I kept this one, too!

November's big project was working on this buffet.

And while December had been ridiculously busy (ask any principal managing a campus after the Sandy Hook tragedy), I managed to repurpose some ice skates for Christmas.

I haven't always been a productive and prolific as I'd like to be, I have to remind myself that this is my hobby and I still have a day job!

I do have some great pieces in the garage waiting to be refreshed!  Can't wait to show you what rolls out of the garage this year!

In a One Horse Open Sleigh

Merry Christmas!  We've had a wonderful day with part of the family and are looking forward to more this weekend!  Hope your holiday is merry and bright as well!

A few weeks ago I found this awesome vintage sled at my antique mall.  Actually, my friend Sharla at the House at Bluebird Lane had just shown me a sled that she bought so I had sled on the brain.  As she and I stood there talking, I noticed this awesome vintage sled.

We arm-wrestled for it.  Sharla was quite the gracious friend and let me have it.  And it was a bargain!  Don't hate me.
I paid $7 for it!

I had visions of using it in front of my tree.  So I rushed home and stacked some gifts in it.   Perfect!

Today we found another use for it.  It was the perfect prop for photos of Jay's first Christmas!

He was pretty proud of sitting in the sled!

He didn't want to get out!

So he sat in the sled and opened presents!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Christmas: Here's Your Sign

I got a few Christmas projects done this weekend.  I've already shown you the ice skates I decorated.  These signs were simple and quick to whip up.

I bought a 1" by 8" board and had my husband cut it into 12 inch sections.  I used a spray primer, then two coats of white spray paint to prep the boards.

I had seen this awesome glitter vinyl and ordered some in red. I used my Silhouette to design two sayings and cut them out of my shiny new vinyl.

Here's the final result:

I can't look at them without breaking into the chorus "We wish you a merry Christmas...."  Doing my part to spread Christmas cheer!
