Buffet Spectacular

Do you ever feel like you bit off more than you can chew?  I felt that way the first time I saw this piece.  Well, actually the second time.  The first time I saw it was at an online auction.  It was a beautiful china cabinet and I could see it redone in all it's glory.  I snagged it for a steal.  I couldn't believe my luck!  Then I went to pick it up.  OH, MY!  It was twice the size I thought it was!  It took three of us to load each piece (top and bottom) into the truck.  No wonder it was such a bargain!

It sat in my garage for a year, waiting for attention.  I passed it daily and dreaded having to paint the massive piece.  I went and bought a spray gun for our compressor, deciding to spray paint it.  It still sat there, waiting for me to figure out where I was going to paint it.  That's when I gave it up.  The top, that is.  Yep, I decided to forgo the china hutch top and just keep the bottom as a buffet.  Sacrilege? Maybe.  Practical?  Definitely.

I started by stripping and refinishing the top.  That's the stripper doing it's magic on the top.  It's hard to tell, but this baby's 6 feet long!

I gave it two coats of Old White and CeCe Caldwell's Memphis Blue in the insets.  I was anxious to try it out since I can get CeCe's paint locally and have to order ASCP.  I'm happy to report that without the labels, I would not have known the difference!

A little distressing, a coat of clear wax, and some glaze later and voila -

Ok, well this is a "before" and "after" of the glaze!

Now, voila!
If you're coming to buy this piece, bring your own muscle!

Oh wow! So pretty in blue and creamy white! Reminds me that this morning on my way (in a hurry) I spotted an old console curbside. I couldn't stop for it. Had no time. Was crushed. Had to look away, put pedal to metal and go on. Been wanting one for ages and there it was and the garbage truck was a block away. Waa! You have done well and it's so soft looking. The glaze really does it up right too. Found you at Redoux Interiors.

Gorgeous. That top just pops now in contrast with the white. It's such a deep rick stain. I'm sure it'll find a happy home very easily.

Wow, I love it, Cyndi! I'm sure it must have been hard to think of making it "topless", but I think it looks great. I was thinking it might make a nice counter/sale area for a boutique or shop as well as a piece for the home.

She's sooo pretty Cyndi! Love the curves and the color combination!I've had the same experience of buying something, then staring it down till I got the courage to tackle it! This one does look big and heavy! But you know I want to see the top. What did you do with it?

Don't feel bad about ditching the top - some marriages end in divorce! My favorite part of this piece is the antiquing. The colors are perfect! Came over from Nifty Thrifty.
