Paddle Up Some Oars

I've sold lots of canoe paddles over the past few years.  They make such great decorative pieces and can be used in lots of ways.  Kelly at Stylish Patina just did a post about ways to use oars.  She found such great ideas!

Anyway, I recently found these two amazing oars.

I loved the aqua color and the perfect shabby-chippiness!

They still have the awesome hardware attached!

Only problem is, they're plain.  They were just crying out for some attention.

So in honor of the Olympics, I thought I'd give them some stars and stripes.

I used my Silhouette to cut some stars out of contact paper.  Then I put some blue painter's tape on the other oar for some stripes.
Then I grabbed some red acrylic paint and went to work.

After two coats of paint, I took off the stencil.

Did you hear them say, "thank you?"

I do believe I did hear them say thanks! I love oars. I sold mine to a neighbor before I move. Now I'm kicking myself. With my left foot, that is. Thanks for joining my party!
