To thank you for your friendship over the past year, I've got a special antique piece to give away today. But first, here's a project that I whipped up over the past few days.
I think chalkboard paint is the best invention! I love that you can turn anything into a chalk board. So when I found these rather ugly pieces at an antique mall recently, I decided to give them new life.
I started by taping off the border of the trays. I used a spray primer to prep them for paining, then gave them three coats of chalkboard paint.
Then, as you know, you have to prime the paint by rubbing chalk all over it.
When you rub the chalk off, you've got a great chalkboard finish ready for use.
I can't decide if I'll punch holes in the tray to add a wire hanger or use a plate hanger to allow them to hang on the wall.
What do you think?
And now for the give away!
I LOVE old ironstone. I love the color, the patina, the chips and cracks that come with a vintage piece. It's got such character. There's something to be said for a 100-year-old piece that survives a trip across the ocean!
That's what I love about this one! This is an antique English ironstone pudding mold. There's a swirly fish at the bottom. I just love the detail!
In true antique style, this one comes with crazing, cracks, and stains. But I embrace those like I embrace my gray hair and wrinkles! They're proof of a life well lived.
I've selected this beauty from my personal collection to give to one of my readers as a way to say thank you for making my first year such a pleasant one!
To enter, leave a comment and let me know your favorite project that I've written about this year.
I'll use a random number generator to select the winner. Deadline to enter is midnight Monday, January 14. Open to residents of the US, age 18 and over!
Thanks again for your friendship!

Hello and congratulations on your first year! I always read your blog--you are so creative and I feel a real "sisterhood" with you. I am a retired educator--and loving retirement I might add:)--and always had to squeeze my projects in as you do. There were many cool projects this past year with the stencils and grain sack stripes, etc. but I really loved the red desk with the stained top. The ironstone is beautiful!
I love, love, love that chalkboard trophy!! I have a thing for vintage trophies and that chalkboard one is just great!! Awesome idea!!

Huge congratulations ron your blog anniversary Cyndi! I love all your painted furniture of course, but my favorites just might be the bird window projects - there are just cool and unique! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next!
I have just started following these past few months and I love everything you have done. wish I had your talent. But the chalkboards projects are by far my favorvite.
I love the large buffet you refinished in blue and white with the stained top--such a beautiful statement piece! (Congrats on one year!)
I too refinish/restore old, beat-up furniture pieces, love it. I saw a cute round table with stripes that I absolutely love. Great job
Congrats on your first year blogging! I too love to paint furniture and the blue buffet is one of my favorites of yours--I have a teal painted one my daughter and son in law gave to us and we get so many comments on the painting. Paint can make furniture come alive again---I have to say all your projects are unbelievable!!
Yea for one year!!!!
I really love the cute little trophy. Question though...did you use Annie Sloan? If so, I thought you didn't have to prime first...should you anyway???
Have really enjoyed your blog...thanks for the give away too!
The table you painted to look like a grain sack on top was genius. Love it! Congrats on your anniversary!
Oh, Cyndi! How am I to choose my favorite one? I love ALL of the amazing projects you do!! Congrats on your 1 year blog anniversary! :-)
