This Chevron Table's Out the Door

Sometimes blessings come from unexpected places.  One day one of my teachers told me she had an old table that I could have if I wanted it.  A free table??  How could I say no?  (I did offer to pay her but she wouldn't hear of it.)

So here's what greeted me when I went to pick it up:

This antique drop-leaf table had already been given a face lift a few years ago.  It was in desperate need of a new do!

Chevron's been a popular pattern this year, so I decided to paint the top in a chevron pattern.  It takes a while to tape it off, but I think it's worth it, don't you?

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and Maison Blanche La Craie Wrought Iron to paint the chevron top.

The legs got two coats of ASCP Provence.  I topped it all off with clear and dark waxes.

It was fun breathing new life into her.  She must have felt rejuvenated, too.  She ran out the door just two hours after I took her to the shop!

A Great Place to Shop

This weekend I went to visit my grandson, and I don't go anywhere without checking out the local antique shops and flea markets!  So I prowled around The Vineyard Antique Mall in Colleyville, TX.  It's a nice large mall with a variety of antiques and collectibles.

Now, I need to back up and tell you a story.  A few years ago my daughter went off to play college volleyball.  She found herself teammates with a precious girl named Ali.  She and Ali became the best of friends and today live close and are enjoying raising their babies together.  Anyway, Ali and her mom decided to start refinishing furniture and open a booth at an antique mall.  You guessed it!  They're new booth is at The Vineyard!

So today I thought I'd show you some of the amazing pieces in Ali's booth!

Look at this awesome table!

She's painted the top in a muted harlequin pattern.

I love this little cabinet!  Oh, the possibilities!

Now you know that turquoise is my favorite, right?

Look at the gold gilding she put on the edges!

This beauty is painted gray on the outside...

And dark gray on the inside!

What an interesting bookcase!

This dresser won't last long!

Don't you love the herringbone?

So if you're ever in the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex, you might want to check out Ali's booth, Refuge Interiors.

Ali's got lots of eye candy!

And just in case you're wondering, I was not paid to talk about Ali's booth.  Just love the girl and her work and want to share both!

This Table's Better in Stripes

Most of the time, refinishing furniture is very satisfying.  Sometimes it's down right exciting.  Like when a piece turns out better than expected.  When it takes on a life of its own and goes beyond what you had planned.

This is the story of a table like that!  I found this table at a flea market a few months ago.

Great lines, good bones... I can do something with this.

I've been in a black and white mode lately (wait 'til you see the dresser I've just finished) and decided to take this one a different direction than my usual stained-top-painted-base combo.

So I taped off the top and painted stripes!

But this girl's a sucker for color!  So I grabbed my favorite Provence and gave the base two coats.

See how he's smiling?  He loves his new look!

I distressed and then waxed with clear wax and then dark wax.

I'm smiling, too!  WAY better!!

*wink*
