Put this Bed to Bed

Have you ever kicked yourself for passing up a piece?  I did that.  Saw an awesome bed at an antique mall and passed on it.  Then all I could think about was that bed!  So the next time I was at that mall (out of town, not like I could run back over there the next day), I made a bee line for the booth.  Giddy-up!  The bed was still there.  It was destiny!  I bought it and brought it home.

I love the hand-carved curves at the top!  But it could use some personality.  I waffled between upholstering the flat panel and painting the legs and border off-white or painting it turquoise.  I decided that the piece was too rustic to be upholstered.  So I gave it a coat of Provence, topped it off with a coat of clear wax followed by dark wax.

You can see the difference the dark wax made!

Here she is finished.  She's a queen size and has rails.

Judging by the chatter on Facebook about the pictures, she won't last long!

Another Scripture Chalkboard

Can't say it's been a productive weekend.  I did get two small projects finished, but I hit a dead end twice with a demon buffet and he's got me stumped on how to proceed.  So tonight I'll show you one that DID get finished!

Last summer I bought three old arched window frames from a friend.  I knew when I bought them I'd make chalkboards out of them.  

The first one was this one.  I painted the frame in Provence and decided to keep it.

I decided to leave the frame shabby white on the next one.

So this weekend I decided to get the last one done.

I painted the frame in Emperor's Silk and the hubby cut a board for the chalkboard.

I chalked up another scripture and took it to the shop on Saturday.

I'm claiming His promise that my demon buffet will not overcome me!

Radio Revamp

Easter blessings to everyone!  I pray each of you have had a wonderful weekend, filled with fun, family, and time to celebrate the gift of new life.

Speaking of new life, on a recent junking trip I found this old radio.  It was cheap.  Like dirt.

It still had the old radio inside.  I texted some pictures to my husband to see if he could tackle surgery on it.  He said "buy it."

So I hauled it home and he got busy taking the guts out.

It was rough.  Perfect for another attempt at MMS milk paint.

So I whipped up a batch of Kitchen Scale.

My new friend Lynette at the Silver Nest told me her secret to mixing milk paint.  So I thought I'd try it.  I definitely got better results this time.  The secret?

1.  Measure out the powder and stir in half of the hot water.  

2.  Stir until you have a thick paste.  

3.  Gradually add in remaining water until it is the consistency you want.

So with my paint mixed up, I gave the cabinet two coats of milk paint.

And slowly but surely she began to chip.

After scraping off the chips, it took on a very authentic vintage look.

 Of course, I needed to address the dreary insides.

So I painted the inside with two coats of ASCP Coco.

Two coats of clear wax and she was ready to go to the shop.

I'm just loving the chipped top!

She's ready to find a home!

Hard to believe she came from such humble beginnings!

If I can do this with an old cabinet and a can of paint, image what God can do when we give our lives to Him!
