Spice up a Bookcase

My three year old grandson comes to spend a week with me every summer.  He's been here this week and we've made the most of his visit, including a trip to the zoo, the drive-in, and of course McDonalds!  It's a good thing I got this bookcase finished before he arrived.  I've gotten nothing done this week with him being here!

I found this quaint bookcase at a flea market recently.  I kinda like the character.  I stripped and refinished the top, then proceeded to paint the rest.

I recently ordered a sample pot of Arles and have been anxious to try it out.  This seemed the perfect piece!

Two coats later it had color but somehow lacked character.  Soooo, I painted the inside CeCe Caldwell's Antique White.

Of course ya gotta tape off the boundaries!

After a coat of clear wax it seemed to lack warmth, so I applied my homemade wax glaze on the gold only and that seemed to do the trick!

I've already taken it into the shop.

I love, love, love adding color to a piece but I'm always nervous about it being the right color.  This one is different for me.  Hope it is well received!

I love it, Cyndi! Yes, I think putting the white on the inside was a good way to go. It really makes it stand out and looks great against the Arles. I know how grandchild time is. I make sure I stay off my laptop when my granddaughter is over. I also always make sure I get anything that needs to get done the day before a visit or that it can wait until the next day {because it's not getting done while she's here!}.

I love that golden yellow color on this little shelf! so pretty.
We're retired...The Honey and Me, and we have our little 3 yr. old grand-daughter everyday. It is a juggle for sure. We take turns with her...she helps tend the chickens and garden with him, and she "helps" me with the dishes (she gets to wash the plastic) :)
We're in Texas!

I came here via Cozy Little House... Welcome to blogging, Pat

Cyndi, Your bookcase turned out super cute! The yellow is a refreshing change from the usual greys, blues and white that seem to be so popular now. Painting the inside white was the perfect touch! :-)

The white interior made that wooden top pop! Love it. I know you may get nothing done with your little guy around but isn't it just the best time ever?
