Sometimes Plan B is Better

I don't usually start a piece until I know what I'm going to do with it. I found this cute table at an antique mall that was going out of business.  I got it for half off!  Score!  It had cute legs and great stretcher bars so I knew it had potential.
So the plan is to paint the legs and skirt turquoise (surprised?) and stain the top dark walnut.  Well, I gave it two coats of ASCP Provence, and stripped and stained the top.  Only problem is that the stain didn't take well and it just didn't look right.

Great!  Now what?
Plan B:
Paint the top black.
Then I cut a stencil using my Silhouette and applied it to the top.
I painted the uncovered sections in Old White.
And the most fun step - pull the stencil off to reveal the pattern.

Yep, I'm lovin' it!

Two coats of clear wax and off to the shop it went.

Plan B stands for "Better!"
